Reverend and The Makers have also organised a remix competition for their next single, open to Sheffield’s music producers. It will be launched at Tramlines this weekend. Press release below:

Reverend’s new single to be Remixed In Sheffield

Not content with curating his own stage and headlining the Tramlines Festival (July 24th-26th Sheffield) with Reverend and The Makers, Jon McClure is handing the city’s burgeoning producers a once in a lifetime opportunity: to feature as the only remixers on the band’s first single release for over a year.

The opportunity for producers to interpret No Soap In A Dirty War will be launched at the two day local producers marathon Mixed in Sheffield – running through the Friday and Saturday of the Tramlines festival (July 24th, 25th) The Mixed in Sheffield project had already caught the eye of Wall of Sound’s pink supremo Mark Jones, whose love affair with the city has been burgeoning for some time.

FOR SOME TIME AND FOR SOME REASON I CANT EXPLAIN I AM DRAWN TO SHEFFIELD. ITS MUSIC AND SONICS HAVE BEEN PLAYING HAVOC WITH MY BRAIN SINCE I CAN REMEMBER . IM SURE THE ELECTRONIC REVOLUTION / EVOLUTION WAS INITIALLY RESPONSIBLE BUT IT GOES MUCH MUCH DEEPER. THE SHEFFIELD REMIXED PROJECT GIVES THE NEW BREED OF DEVELOPING ELECTRO PRODUCERS AND PIONERERS A CHANCE TO GET SOME WELL DESERVED ATTENTION…BRING IT ON

For Reverend and the Makers front man Jon McClure, its another opportunity to showcase the depth of musical talent in his home town. Jon will also be producing a one hour show on the music from of Tramlines for NMe Radio.

The press have been pigeonholing Sheffield as a hot bed for guitar indie for too long now. This city has always had amazingly diverse music – and that’s something that me, Matt [Helders] and Toddla will be demonstrating at Tramlines. When we come to select the remixes we expect to be choosing from a complete spectrum of musical styles. Its that variety which keeps the music of Sheffield so fresh.

Local artist and producer Liam O’Shea whose Mixed In Sheffield project inspired the decision, will be celebrating the launch of the initiative at his 2 day marathon electronic musical extravaganza, held at the Washington as part of Tramlines. The Mixed in Sheffield project was conceived to remind Sheffield itself and the rest of the world of its unique and fabulous heritage in Electronic music-and importantly who is making WHAT…… NOW!

Mixed in Sheffield started life as a mix compilation – a virtual A-Z of current electronic activity featuring 41 artists and a website www.mixedinsheffield.com.

I have got forty odd potential candidates playing at the Washington Pub at my Mixed In Sheffield 2 showcase. We will be getting a few of them the acapella parts before hand to generate some upfront live mixes at the event!

No Soap For A Dirty War is scheduled for release on September 14th. The featured remixes will be selected by Mark, Jon, Liam and [Toddla T] and closing date for the competition is August 4th.

Entry and competition details can be found on www.mixedinsheffield.co.uk
