Today sees Raye unveil new her single ‘Tell Me’. Another huge statement from the young singer, ‘Tell Me’ – produced by Los Angeles based artist Blood Diamonds – feels like one of Rachel Keen’s strongest moments yet. Fully embracing her blues & soul inspiration in her soaring vocal melodies, but always staying true to her R&B, and hip-hop influences.

Lyrically the track falls under the category of reciprocated love – an undeniably relatable theme for a 17 year-old. Speaking more on the track Raye has said “This song is truthfully about an old relationship I was in…it was so perfect and the song, to me – reflects exactly how beautiful it was.

Hailing from South London, more specifically Croydon, Raye (real name – Rachel Keen) has seen her stocks rise exponentially over the past 12 months or so. Her debut EP ‘Welcome To The Winter’ garnered a whirlwind of critical acclaim in 2014, surpassing the 4 million streams mark recently.

Since then, she’s been collaborating with a number of esteemed producers, the latest of which – Blood Diamonds, whom she worked with on ‘Tell Me‘.

Raye went on to say “I had a session with Blood Diamonds. He tore up the production to this so fast and lyrically it fell the same. We really clicked. ‘Tell Me’ is just a cute lil’ R&B-ish love tune. About, you know, when you grow some way about someone, and you just wanna feel it reciprocated.

At only 17 years of age, Raye is something of an anomaly for someone of her tender age, showing early signs of incomparable potential. Brought up in a musical family – her parents met at church – both of them musicians in the parish, with her musical heritage going right back to her Grandfather, a songwriter and musician in his own right.

Writing and recording her own music since the age of 10, Raye is no stranger to the world she now finds herself in. Brought up on the classic soul/jazz maestros of the 40’s and 50’s like Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole etc – this is where her love for songwriting and melody began. Since then her influences have aligned with the times, citing Drake, The Weeknd, and her all time hero Lauryn Hill as huge sources of inspiration.

Recently supporting Years & Years on tour, as well as supporting Oh Wonder at their debut shows early year this – Raye’s subtle take on warm, electronic-infused R&B is one that instantly captivates the listener. Carefully drawing inspiration from a finely tuned set of musical eras, genres, and artists; rarely is it the case that a songwriter and performer at such a young age is able to serve up such well-rounded, exciting and impressive music. The world is at Raye’s feet, and you’d be hard pushed to say she isn’t capable of delivering the goods.
