A stirring, complex, inventive debut release – the ‘Shadow’ EP introduces Mont Jake as an artist who is willing to explore musical boundaries, dive into intriguing collaborations, and completely unafraid to take risks.

A soulful blend of beautifully constructed hip-hop tinged instrumentals, and rousing harmonic passages, the EP features collaborations with the likes of Wu-Tang Clan‘s very own Masta Killa, and Chance The Rapper collaborator, Noname.

An ambitious set of tracks, the Masta Killa collaboration on the EP’s title track stands out, with Mont Jake saying this on their work together: “I sent the track ‘Shadow’ to Wu-Tang, and Masta Killa invited me to a studio in New York where he then recorded his verse. I was super stoked about hanging out with a member of the Wu-Tang Clan and being in the legendary Quad recordings where Tupac was shot. A huge step-up from the basement in Copenhagen where I wrote and produced the song.”

Speaking on his work with Noname on the track ‘I Had Music‘ – Mont Jake had this to say: “The first time I heard Noname’s voice (at the time she was called Noname Gypsy), was on Chance The Rapper’s brilliant mixtape ‘Acid Rap’. I reached out to her about a collaboration this year, and luckily she said yes! Together, we did this tune called ‘I Had Music’.”
