On October 28th, PRIESTESS, the alt-pop artist hailing from London, releases her cinematic new single‘Landscapes’. A music video lands the same day, created by the artist in Volta – a new software that creates 3D immersive visuals and mixed reality experiences. ‘Landscapes’ follows Holy Flesh and is the title track to be released from PRIESTESS’ debut EP set for release before the year closes out.

“Landscapes” won the 2021 Greenpeace/ DJ’S4CA (DJ’s for Climate Action) competition judged by the likes of Matt Black from Ninja Tune, BLOND:ISH, and Cosmo Baker. It was pressed onto the first eco-friendly vinyl alongside artists such as Acid Paulie. The track is underpinned by the sonic imprint of Nature. Arctic ice claps, Amazonian storm loops and Pacific waves crash against deep bassline and woozy electronics, to striking effect. Whilst the haunting ethereal vocal of PRIESTESS awakens us spiritually to a deeper part of ourselves.

Kate said about the single Landscapes is all about connection. If we are disconnected from the impact of climate change and the destruction of our planet, then we are also disconnected from each other. This is a love song that imagines a future that is so wide and cinematic and technicoloured that you can get totally lost within it. Wandering, stumbling through a widescreen landscape of conflicting emotions, raw and natural, bright and dark, always on the edge of trauma or pain. This juxtaposition is also reflected in the way that we love, but also destroy our planet. There is hope of ultimately finding your way home within that love, to a place of greater connection and hope.. 

PRIESTESS was formed in London by Kate Fleur Young. She then teamed up with producers James Mottershead and Oli Kilpatrick. It is a fluid and collaborative mix with Kate at the creative helm and heart. The vision of Priestess is to bring haunting melodies, harmonies and lyrics with a thread and feeling of hope that brightens the shade, to a backdrop of dark beats, bass and lush electronic landscapes. Priestess conjures up pictures of an ancient esoteric energy of Nature sprinkled with pop from the modern city. Their collective sound celebrates transformations, experiences, and self-expression through the ritual of music, with influences in artists pouring a deep sensuality and intuition into their electronic sound – such as FKA Twigs, Fever Ray, Portishead, and Little Dragon
