With a sound that breaks down walls of convention, Petrie is a name you could well be hearing a lot about over the coming months.

The new single is an electronically twisted, tumultuous alt-pop masterpiece. Co-produced and written with his best mate Better Laurence, To Swim opens with a ghostly, reverb-laced synth line – Petrie sings of “having his whole life ahead of him” – before leaping into a jittery, bass-driven chorus. As the song builds, Petrie showcases his impressive vocal talents, delivering complicated, but undeniably assured lyrical passes – all with a backdrop of swirling electronics, glitchy percussion work, and crushing guitar runs.

Speaking on the song, Petrie explained – ‘To Swim is both a series of observations on hedonism and a cautionary tale with an unnerving description of comfort obsessed youth.’

Distinctly British, and seemingly intent on pushing songwriting boundaries to their limits – Petrie is something of a prodigal talent, with his sound arriving fully formed right from the word go.

Delivering every line with an infectious sincerity, Petrie’s vocal tone is warm and welcoming, executed with laser-like precision, backed by chaotic electronic melodic touches, and wonderfully adventurous rhythm sections.

With his debut EP set to follow in 2017 – Petrie is one to keep a keen eye on for sure.
