‘June’ sees Petrie return to see the summer out with a quarter-life crisis posing as a sun-soaked banger. Featuring frequent collaborator and hilarious muse JESS who’s pipes and lyrical genius pop up throughout the track.
Petrie explain: “This is a song for when neither you nor your lover wants to admit the relationship is deteriorating, simply because you want to enjoy a gorgeous summer. No amount of factor fifty is gonna save you from the sun’s deceptively malevolent glare.”
Sonically, ‘June’ is a heated debate between a bunch of restless keyboards and a drunken rhythm section, all being egged on by a boisterous bass synthesizer. The tune is strung together by a woozy wah-guitar riff that does its best to stop the mad groove from falling on its face.
In 2017, Petrie made their mark with the release of Slurs EP, a collection of four distinctive, playful and genre-bending tracks praised by the likes of Complex, Stereogum, NYLON, Highclouds, Hillydilly and many more from the online music community and beyond.
Petrie are preparing for their first ever headline show at London’s The Waiting Room on 20 sept.
