Singer, songwriter, and musician Cristina Vane is kicking off a fresh chapter by sharing her latest single ‘You Ain’t Special’, featuring country legend Kenny Vaughan on telecaster. Produced by Cristina and Brook Sutton, and recorded in Nashville at The Studio, this new song offers a tantalizing glimpse into her upcoming fourth album, Hear My Call, set for release early 2025.
Drawing on her eclectic life journey, from the foothills of the Italian Alps to the metropolises of London and Paris to the contrasting locations of New Jersey and Tennessee, Cristina Vane presents herself as an adventurous yet relatable songwriter. Inspired by the warm and smokey tones of America’s rich country music heritage, ‘You Ain’t Special’ is steeped in the art of storytelling. Built around Vane’s distinctive bottleneck slide guitar style and travis picking, these strings are woven together with her smooth yet powerful vocals. With her inviting songwriting and charming style, she showcases her truly unique and authentic musical perspective.
Reflecting on the moment of inspiration that led to ‘You Ain’t Special’, Cristina Vane shares: “This song came to me on a sunny morning in Tennessee after a recent heartache. I was feeling sorry for myself, but also feeling quite disgruntled by the whole situation, and ‘You Ain’t Special’ sort of tumbled out in one go as a way to reclaim my power in the situation.”
The single is accompanied by a captivating music video, directed by Oceanna Colgan, that conveys the many sides to Vane’s buoyant personality – from self-possessed woman to confident performer to playful entertainer to a timeless songwriter. Her ex might not be special, but Cristina Vane certainly is.
