“Alfreda’s honeyed vocals weave through a lush composition harkening back to a bygone era whilst embracing contemporary soundscapes.” – Wonderland
“Every note played and lyric sung resonates with precision and feels perfected to the utmost ‘T’.” – Notion
“Vivacious and packed with colour, Alfreda tackles femme energy, motherhood, and desire, done with wit and no small degree of creativity.” – Clash
The enigmatic Alfreda has stepped into the limelight once again with her latest single ‘Frankie’. Steeped in an air of mystery, exuding old Hollywood glamour, and with a subtle confidence, the London-based artist is set to recapture the audience’s attention.
Following the poignant ‘Nude’, spell-binding ‘Lipstick’, and powerful chic-pop ‘Guest Room’, this fourth single completes the narrative of her Mother’s Makeup EP. As with each track, Alfreda explores a wide variety of sounds and styles, imbuing the soundscape with an intangible essence, yet these songs are undeniably true to her creative expression.
‘Frankie’ is no exception in that it is exceptional. It begins with a raw emotionality tinged with John Lennon-esque melodies, but as this alt-pop ballad progresses, it evolves into a 70s disco gem.
As for the narrative behind ‘Frankie’, Alfreda summarises it as a song about lust, obsession, and mistaken identity:
“Frankie is about the time I fell hard for someone (admittedly I hardly knew him), and then once when we bumped into each other he got my name wrong. I took this anecdote and have developed it into a sound bite where I become this ‘Frankie’. I become someone else and give in to everything I believe men want. Frankie is easy. Frankie is a good time girl. Frankie messes around and doesn’t get hurt”
‘Frankie’ will be joined by a music video directed and edited by Stanley Dunmore on 23rd August.
The artist holds down a cabaret-inspired residency called ‘Bedroom Tales’ at overhauled London music hub and now members club House of KOKO. Here she showcases her ability to merge music and cabaret in an intimate, engaging setting. With support from Wonderland, Notion, and Clash, Alfreda is quickly establishing herself as a compelling new voice in contemporary music, inviting her audience to lose themselves in her captivating world.
To promote the hotly anticipated debut EP, she is soon embarking on a ‘Bedroom Tour’, which will see Alfreda perform her songs in different people’s bedrooms across England.
Just a week before Glastonbury in 2023, Alfreda was invited to play at the festival by burlesque icon Evelyn Carnate.
Alfreda also had a three-page editorial shoot and interview in the April 2024 issue of Tatler, where she discusses her music, cabaret, influences and her exciting visual world.
