Ten tips for navigating the music industry to your advantage:
Be proactive and take control. Your mantra should always be “I am my own boss”.
Educate yourself. Learning how the music industry works is how to start taking care of business.
Understand who you are. Clarifying your artistic proposition and identity will help direct you in many of the decisions and dealings
Choose your team wisely. Just like any close relationship, don’t rush into it. Make sure they embrace you for who you are and what you want.
Know your leverage. The more you understand what value you bring to the table, the stronger your leverage is in any situation.
Own the relationship with your fans. Invest the time and effort to nurture them, it will pay off in the long run.
Get out there, collaborate and network. Don’t sit in your bedroom waiting for the world to come to you, you have to build your own momentum.
Focus your energy. Focus on your area of control, not your area of concern. Don’t exhaust yourself getting frustrated with things that you can’t change
Persevere, and persevere again. Don’t give up. There are thousands of stories of artists who went on to great success after stumbling at times in their careers
Be kind to yourself and supportive of others. Your mental, physical & spiritual health are essential to your success, so nurture them
