Today, Oldham based artist Jordan Max is sharing the video for his debut single ‘Hell’.

The video was shot in Jordan’s home town of Oldham, with everyone featuring in the video – either friends of Jordan’s or local Oldham characters.

The narrative in the video (directed by HECTOR) is inspired by real life events in Jordan’s life. Before Jordan had discovered he could sing or had played an instrument, he saw the film ‘Ray’ about Ray Charles and this inspired him to learn the piano. Jordan found someone local giving away an old upright piano and the next day him and his mates (who are in the video) went and picked it up and carried it through the streets back to Jordan’s flat – he then taught himself to play piano and wrote the music that would later become his debut EP.

The track, written and recorded in his bedroom, showcases his arresting, timeless and soulful vocals and makes for a hugely impressive introduction.

Jordan manages to blends elements of soul, hip-hop and indie into what could be mistaken for the output of an accomplished star from Detroit or Memphis. The truth is Jordan Max is a 23 year-old from the unlikely location of Oldham, near Manchester.

The reaction to Jordan’s first EP has been extremely exciting with support from the likes of The Fader, Pigeons & Planes, Consequence of Sound, NME – and many more – including strong BBC Radio 1 support – which resulted in him being added to the station’s playlist, with numerous plays from the likes of Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Philly Taggart and more, along with Beats 1 DJ’s Julie Adenunga, Zane Lowe showing keen support – and a play on Pharrell’s show.

The future looks very bright for Jordan Max.
