The Heavy have today premiered ‘Turn Up’, a storming new track taken from their forthcoming album ‘Hurt & The Merciless’, out 1st April on Counter Records. As a taster for the new album ‘Turn Up’ is perfect, with live horn and string sections adding flesh to its righteous rock’n’blues bones.

‘Hurt & The Merciless’ marks a musical culmination for The Heavy, a mesmeric blend of their trademark rock’n’roll classicism and funk and soul grooves with added sonic experimentation. Everything the band have achieved over the past decade feels like it has been leading to this point. They’ve mixed the lightning bolts of their live show with a batch of their strongest songs yet. ‘Hurt & The Merciless’ is the sound of a thrilling rock’n’roll band fighting back.

The Heavy’s distinctive, genre-blending sound, described by Q as fusing “Prince, The Rolling Stones and 60’s Garage”, has brought the band considerable international success. Their songs – notably ‘How You Like Me Now?’, ‘Big Bad Wolf‘ and ‘What Makes A Good Man‘ – have appeared in many of the coolest films and TV series of the past few years, and are currently soundtracking trailers to two of 2016’s most important releases, ‘The Hateful Eight’ and ‘The Big Short’.
