Today sees Brighton’s Max Pope share his first new music for over two years, in the shape of new track ‘All That I Need’. It premiered a moment ago on Indie Shuffle, but you can stream it below.

Take a huge dose of talent, a touch of song-writing genius and a splash of precocious musicianship. To that, add a liberal dash of youthful vitality and energy plus the confidence of a live performer who has the ability to not only captivate, but make sure that you – the audience member – feel as important as what he is doing on stage. What you are left with is the talent that is Max Pope.

Max Pope is a singer/songwriter from Brighton – who released his debut track ‘Gone To Count Sheep’ around 2 years ago – getting a lot of people really quite excited. Since then, he’s been quietly plying his trade, working on his live show, and writing material which would eventually form his debut EP ‘Less Than Nothing’, set for release this winter – it’s a confident and strident debut, with four outstanding tracks that perfectly showcase his musical journey so far.

The music that Max creates, is a deliciously evocative amalgamation of genres. Speaking on the influences behind the EP, Max notes that whilst he’s a huge fan of a lot of new music coming out right now, there’s a lot of old-school blues and soul embedded within the EP’s four tracks. “I don’t listen to a whole lot of blues music, but it’s always been around me since I was really young” he explains. His dad, also a musician, has had a huge impact on Max – and he explains that his father has always been a big source of inspiration during his development as an artist and songwriter.

Splitting his time between Brighton and London for the past 18 months or so, writing and recording with his friend and collaborator Alex Burey, Max Pope has evolved into a wonderfully well rounded artist. Combining influences from a variety of different sources, he manages to effortlessly bridge the gap between fresh, modern – alternative songwriting, and the classic indie rock sound of the 60’s and 70’s.

Speaking on the meaning behind ‘All That I Need’ – his glorious comeback track, Max explains that lyrically he just wanted to keep things simple, to deliver a straightforward message without using lots of metaphors. Essentially, it’s a very honest song about missing someone you love. Something we can all relate to.

Vibrant and exciting, Max Pope is about to take his seat at music’s high table of success. A musician of remarkable skill and a writer of songs that belie his years, he is clearly an artist that is a student of his craft. Consummately at ease in the live setting and with music that acknowledges the past, but clearly lives in the present, Max is a star for the future.

The ‘Less Than Nothing’ EP is set for release later this year.
