Molly Hammar, the Swedish chart-topping RnB sensation, will release her empowering, sophomore EP, ‘God Is lonely Too’ on April 16th, via Cosmos Music. The six-track EP, features lead single ‘Friends’ released the same day, two additional brand-new tracks including ‘Loneliness’ a co-write with Sky Adams and previous singles ‘Alone’, ‘Get To Know Me First’ and ‘Douchebag’.

‘God Is Lonely Too’ is rooted in female advocacy, as Molly continues to use that message as a springboard for sonic evolution. The six-track EP showcases the artist’s musical hybridity as a nouveau RnB alt-pop powerhouse. We are treated to the singers fully matured artistry as she navigates loneliness and lyrically distils disappointing experiences with men. The full collection of songs sends a strong defiant message to anyone who has felt alone, as the artist promotes self-love and the power of embracing sisterhood. Molly’s musical “world” is built on unapologetic femininity, wherein women are no longer beholden to societal expectations.
Molly said “I want the “God Is Lonely Too” EP to be a friend when you’re feeling lonely. I want to remind people of the importance of accepting their loneliness and talk about it more frequently in different ways. There are different perspectives to being lonely, sometimes you love it and sometimes you hate it. I would have never been able to release this music with a major label in Sweden it’s so out there. I’m so happy to be doing the kind of music that I love.
The artist continued “Lead single ‘Friends’ again is about not wanting to feel lonely and romanticising a friendship that shouldn’t be any more than that, just because you don’t want to feel alone. Sometimes it is just better to accept people and relationships for what they are and move on.
In 2020, Molly Hammar won ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ at the coveted Swedish music award show Rockbjörnen. The award is initiated by Aftonbladet, Sweden’s leading evening newspaper. However, the artist’s success story to date has been far from straight forward. Molly was signed to a major record label in her native Sweden during her teens and was propelled into the limelight, but the commercial pop she was making did not fit with her artistic vision. Obsessed with R&B and keen to make more of her versatile voice and background in jazz and soul she split from her record label and flourished under her newfound creative control. In 2018 Molly Hammar truly found her own sound with the release of her EP ‘Sex’, where she unpacked the stigma surrounding female pleasure and her inner battle for body positivity, all while performing vocal gymnastics over soaring piano melodies anchored with trap beats. Not only was the project critically acclaimed, it amassed her a huge female fanbase — many of whom reached out to thank Hammar for lending her voice to the movement.
A host of follow-up hits such as the Big Narstie collaboration ‘No Place Like Me’, pop banger ‘Words’, her soulful Kim Cesarion duet ‘Show Me’, radio-ready hit ‘Shortcuts’, pop ballad ‘Alone’ and recent collaboration ‘Get To Know Me First’ have enabled Molly to balance the perfect combination of kick-ass R&B vocals and soulful beats, with a truly contemporary pop sound. Recent releases have garnered widespread media support across the UK and globally from the likes of BBC Radio 2, BBC 1Xtra, Channel 4, Billboard, The Line of Best Fit, Complex, NYLON, and Swedish ELLE, to name but a few.
Finding real connection with fans is Molly’s favourite facet of music, she has been captivating audiences across Europe with her live shows, her first packed-out performance at Colours Hoxton was reviewed by UK tastemaker Alfitude as “one of the best showcases I’ve caught this year”. Molly also played the Swedish equivalent of Beyonce’s character Nala in the live-action adaption of ‘The Lion King’ at the end of 2019 and in February 2020 she sold out her first two headline gigs. Molly’s live show at definitive London based Nordic club night Ja Ja Ja at The Lexington, which was scheduled for April 2020, has been postponed until UK venues can safely open again.
