In Feb this year, Gemini (Thomas Slinger) revealed the first single ‘Time To Share’ from ‘Wanderlust‘. The first new music from Gemini in more than two years, the track saw the former dub-step overachiever beloved by Annie Mac and Zane Lowe embrace a lush, cinematic new sound inspired by his travels abroad. It picked up big support online from youtube channels and blogs alike (“One of the best songs of the year” Pop Justice) – amassing over 2 million streams online.

Follow-up single ‘Do It For Love’ was released in May, premiering on behemoth youtube channel Mr. Suicide Sheep, which has racked up in excess of a million streams. He went on to release third album track ‘Dancing Clouds‘ in July which The Line of Best Fit described as “a laid-back pop masterclass, with sad-R&B vocals and floaty, dreamy synths liberally draped across firm beats. It’s a subtler offering this time around, showing off Slinger’s ability to craft a ballad that’s as euphoric as it is moving.”

Having suffered a long bout of writers block, Gemini’s breakthrough came over the course of six months in 2015, after being introduced to songwriter Max McElligott of the U.K. band Wolf Gang. It was sparked when Slinger reworked one of McElligott’s compositions which led to an almost a full-on ‘Wanderlust’ collaboration including new single ‘Dancing Clouds’. “He came from an indie pop background. It really helped bridge the electronic with the organic,” Slinger adds. “Sonically, I’ve always wanted to be pop.”

Following the success of solo singles such as ‘Blue’ and mixes for A-listers Ellie Goulding, Lana Del Rey), Slinger felt compelled to break beyond genre boundaries. He retreated to a studio to radically rethink his sounds–and promptly got writer’s block. He packed up his belongings, left Britain and set out to travel the world, reigniting his musical creativity and discovering a latent talent for travel photography and film (catalogued via his expansive @ThisIsGemini Instagram account and in the Wanderlust Teaser) as he explored Norway, Sweden, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma and more. “98,739 miles travelled, four albums written, one I’m finally happy with,” he wrote, tellingly, on his Facebook page. Those life-changing experiences shaped the intensely personal ‘Wanderlust’.
