Copenhagen raised/London based artist Mont Jake is today sharing new single ‘Pearly Cloud’ – featuring Kanye West/Kendrick Lamar collaborator Assassin, and a debut from new 16-year old MC, Bryn The First.

The new single premiered over on Pigeons & Planes, and can now be streamed below.

Mont Jake, real name Jacob Hammershøj, is an artist who is intent on exploring musical boundaries, diving into intriguing collaborations, and is completely unafraid to take risks in his art.

Producing, writing, and performing all of his material, Mont Jake’s musical journey began when he found a guitar in his Grandmother’s house at the age of 6 – “I remember using the guitar to space out and escape into a different world” – he explains.

Written about being haunted by an addiction you can’t shake – Mont Jake continues to develop and perfect his beautifully constructed hip-hop leaning instrumentals on ‘Pearly Cloud’, with his rousing harmonic passages hugely impressive throughout, matching up seamlessly with the track’s intriguing featured artists.

“Back in Copenhagen I had my own studio where I was allowed to be completely in my own zone most of the time” Jake explains. “It was comfortable, and I loved it but it also made me very anti-social musically.”

Speaking on his move to London, Jake said: “London is amazing. I think it has the world’s most diverse music scene. It’s such a big music metropolis, and you can find all types of people and sounds mixed together in a big melting pot. The way things are merged together across genres and cultures here is limitless. And it’s all pinned up on a mutual love for music and art. It is amazing to be a part of, and has definitely opened my mind in terms of collaborating with people from all over the world. London is making me more open minded and less afraid to include different and twisted elements into my music.”

New single ‘Pearly Cloud’ features Jamaican rapper Assassin – who most recently featured on Kendrick Lamar’s “The Blacker The Berry”, as well as appearing on Kanye West’s 2013 album “Yeezus”. The new single also marks a debut appearance from London based 16-year old MC, Bryn The First.

This latest single follows his debut EP, ‘Shadow’ – an ambitious set of soulful tracks featuring collaborations with the likes of Wu-Tang Clan’s very own Masta Killa, and Chance The Rapper collaborator/future superstar Noname.

The Masta Killa collaboration on the EP’s title track stands out, with Mont Jake saying this on their work together: “I sent the track ‘Shadow’ to Wu-Tang, and Masta Killa invited me to a studio in New York where he then recorded his verse. I was super stoked about hanging out with a member of the Wu-Tang Clan and being in the legendary Quad recordings where Tupac was shot. A huge step-up from the basement in Copenhagen where I wrote and produced the song.”

Speaking on his work with Noname on the track ‘I Had Music’ – Mont Jake had this to say: “The first time I heard Noname’s voice (at the time she was called Noname Gypsy), was on Chance The Rapper’s brilliant mixtape ‘Acid Rap’. I reached out to her about a collaboration this year, and luckily she said yes! Together, we did this tune called ‘I Had Music’.”

Keep tabs on Mont Jake below, with him set to release even more exquisite music in the months to come. Jake will also be playing 3 London shows this autumn, dates below.
