Alexander Wolfe releases his new EP ‘Your Love Is A Wheel’ on June 15th through Dharma Records. Featuring new single and EP title track, the rousing ‘Your Love Is A Wheel’, alongside his three glorious previous singles ‘Breaking The Fall’, ‘Oslo’ and ‘I Can’t Get To Sleep’. It’s a beautiful body of work that showcases Wolfe’s immense talent and is a taster of what’s to come from his new album due to release later in 2018.

The EP’s previous singles have picked support by way of Lauren Laverne and 6 Music Recommends, Radio X, Indie Shuffle, All Things Go, The Line of Best Fit, Mahogany Blog, Record of the Day and CLASH to name a few.

Speaking about the recording process, Wolfe explains, “I recorded the EP at Dean St Studios in Soho. I produced it, played all the instruments myself, layering myself up like a less sexy prince. I wanted it to be really dense and sound really front footed and thick, there are mellotrons on there, lots of electric guitars, a few analogue synths, “some eastern stuff too, tablas, a tamboura, a sitar etc… Then my good friend and long time collaborator Steve Pilgrim came to the studio and replaced all my dreadful drums.”

Going on to speak about the creation of title track ‘Your Love Is A Wheel’ Alexander says “I wrote YLIAW as a stream of consciousness so I’m not exactly sure what it’s about. I usually write the words and the music at the same time but I had the instrumental knocking about for a couple of months, I wasn’t sure if it was a song or not and then the words and melody came to me one night and I wrote it in a couple of minutes. I think it’s about the cycle of love and and the way we follow it blindly without really knowing where we’re going. And then repeat and repeat. How, if you’re not careful, the promise of new Love will crush everything that went before it. And how it can go cold on you with no warning, lead you down paths, and every time brings you back to the beginning as if whatever went before never happened… basically it’s another chirpy little radio song’

Alexander Wolfe has given his life to music. A songwriter with two acclaimed albums to his name, the release of his third – ‘From The Shallows’ – in 2015 was set to be a landmark moment in his career. A record he had poured countless hours of inspiration and emotion into. But then the music industry intervened. The label he was signed to had been embezzling money and was forced into liquidation. And with that, all those songs, all those beautiful moments, were eclipsed.

So he stepped back. “I honestly thought that I wasn’t going to make another record,” he says. He started working on other musical projects, writing and producing for other artists, as well as writing plays. Wolfe co-wrote Les Enfants Terribles underground hit show ‘The Trench’, he also scored ‘Alice’s Adventures Underground’, an Olivier nominated play that enjoyed two hugely acclaimed – and completely sold out – London runs.

But Alexander Wolfe found that he simply couldn’t avoid songwriting – it was a
part of him, as natural as breathing, and slowly a new album came into focus. More Velvet Underground than Nick Drake, the new material is acoustic with an art-rock edge, akin to those early Elliott Smith recordings, the first 2 Bon Iver albums, or even Swedish songwriter Jose Gonzales.
