Sam Johnson releases new single ‘Way Back Home’ on March 16th through Republic of Music. The follow up to his debut single ‘Perfect Circle’, ‘Way Back Home’ is a rousing ode to the current state of politics, exemplifying Johnson’s unique vocal, all delivered in a manner that transports the listener to a better place.

Speaking about the track Sam explains, “’Way Back Home’ is written about the state of global politics that surrounds me. Strange things are going on everywhere and I felt compelled to write a song about it. I wanted to capture the general feeling of disarray and shock that is thick in the air and try and convey that in a distilled pop moment. I have recently immersed myself in listening to various electronic producers and wanted to bring that on board and place elements into my natural folk roots.”

23 year-old Shropshire born singer/songwriter Sam Johnson shows his deft talent for writing beautifully emotive and soulful songs. Debut single ‘Perfect Circle’ was crowned BBC introducing Shropshire’s – ‘Track of the month’ giving it a daytime play a day for all of Feb), it also picked up Radio 1 support from Huw Stephens and Amazing Radio as well as online support from tastemakers like The Line Of Best Fit who called it “a heartfelt rumination on childhood loneliness and the power of imagination.”, All Things Go, Indie London, Scientist of Sound and more.

Sam has been making music for as long as he can remember. Self taught on the guitar and influenced by all sorts of records he found lying around his house – Patti Smith, Nirvana, Ben Howard to Outsider Folk and underground Australian Punk Rock.

Praise of Sam Johnson

The Line of Best Fit – “Sam Johnson dives into his bittersweet past on grand new folk track “Perfect Circle”…a heartfelt rumination on childhood loneliness and the power of imagination.”

Indie London – “Sam Johnson releases his debut single in the form of Perfect Circle and quickly shows plenty of potential. Displaying his penchant for writing emotive and soulful songs, this is built around some moody piano and an earnest, emotive set of vocals that tap into the emotional complexity within the lyrics. The inclusion of some subtle acoustic guitar licks and back-beats only enhances the track’s overall appeal late on, while showcasing Johnson’s ear for a nicely layered, slow builder of a song. “

Scientist of Sound -“Many try, but few artists convey the same emotion and heart-string tugging warmth that’s nestled deep within Sam Johnson’s music. His latest effort explores a simplistic guitar strummed melody, added piano key strikes make their presence, centred before a resounding percussive ensemble. Yet it’s Johnson unique soulful delivery that truly makes it stand apart – A talent that can paint a thousand words, and here’s proven example.”
