Petrie release ‘Late Night’ on 1.8.17 via Good Groove. ‘Late Night’ follows the release of their debut ep ‘Slurs’ back in March 2017.

Petrie are alt-pop duo George and Better Laurence, two friends from Hertfordshire, distinctly British and seemingly intent on pushing songwriting boundaries to their limits.

‘Late Night’ mixes the raw sounds of hip-hop and grunge with startling tropes of the top 40, almost as if the narrator and his lover are fighting over the aux cable.

Brash guitars and lurching beats are combined with ear-grabbing synth melodies and sugary vocal hooks.

Speaking on the track, Petrie quote: ‘Late Night’ is an ode to growing up too fast. Petrie’s semi-biographical character is discontent and directionless as he laments his desperate need to connect. The scene is a midnight drive, akin to Rebel Without A Cause, a cliché that the love interest mocks as she sarcastically coos: “I close my eyes and this Fiesta is a ’49 Mercury”.

‘Late Night’ was co-written with close friend Saint Torrente.
Bursts of hi-hats and jittery percussion come courtesy of Atlanta’s Honorable C.N.O.T.E, who has most recently worked with the likes of Travis Scott, Migos and Lil Uzi Vert.

The ‘Slurs’ EP amassed 700,000 Spotify streams. Title track ‘Slurs’ hit no.11 on Spotify’s US Viral chart and was included in numerous playlists including Viral Hits and was also on the BBC Introducing playlist on 1Xtra. ‘To Swim’ was picked up by ‘Fresh Finds’ and included in their best of 2017 playlist. Strong support from the likes of Colours, Mr. Revillz, CloudKid, Human Human, Purple Melon and Noon Pacific helped raise the duo’s profile both in the UK and in the US.

Petrie are currently busy writing and producing new material and ‘Late Night’ will be followed by regular releases throughout 2017
