Just in time for the upcoming Tour No. 3 Fil Bo Riva releases the second single off his upcoming debut album. In “Blindmaker“, the Berlin-based Roman is releasing a punchy indie pop track which uses addictive guitar hooks, modern beats, and Fil’s luscious vocals to portray the rush and excitement of sex, complete with a neon-lit, surrealist music video.

Speaking directly about the new single, Fil Bo Riva summarise: “Blindmaker is a song about sex. The lyrics came together very quickly after writing down the first line and I simply wanted to portrait a scene of how physical love can feel. That desire, that adrenaline rush and that focus of it all – when everything else stops to matter and disappears.”

Born and raised in Rome, Fil decamped to Dublin for his school years and later relocated to Berlin in 2012. His first EP, If You’re Right, It’s Alright, was released in 2016. He has since made a name for himself all over Europe by touring in support of Matt Corby, Aurora, Milky Chance, AnnenMayKantereit, among others. 2017 saw two sold-out tours with his own band, as well as numerous national and international festival shows. In the light of early successes, guitarist Felix A. Remm was soon added to the mix, and so, the initial solo project had matured into a solid live duo, and with the addition of two more members, this intrinsic four-piece continue to light up stages on recurrent tours.

In between concerts, festivals and impressions made, Fil Bo Riva was constantly drawn back to Berlin to continue work on his debut with producer Robert Stephenson. It was a time of kaleidoscopic experiences and differing priorities: life in the fast lane on the one hand, being on tour with all it’s impressions, new cities, faces and peers, giving autographs for the first time and the realization that there’s hundreds of fans chanting along to your songs. On the other hand, there is the total isolation from the world. In the seclusion of the studio, absolutely focused on the process of the album; digging deep within himself, and truly forgetting everything around him, being alone with nothing but his music. Nothing else matters. An intense and plentiful process which the artist takes great pleasure in, and which finally let’s these songs evolve into their final state step by step.

“I think we first started developing the song in 2016 and we probably played the song 200 times before we ended up with the actual version a few months ago. It was a long process of recording, playing and starting over again. It first sounded like a new-wave inspired tune on stage and we tried to bring that feel back into the studio, but I realized that I wanted it to be more compact and sexy. So, it took a while to find the right dress for it. One day, after recording version number 57, we sat down in our studio and noticed that wasn’t it… then, somehow, we just turned on a beat machine for fun, I grabbed my bass and Felix his guitar and we started playing over it. After that moment, the song was pretty much done in 10 minutes.“

As opposed to the EP, where Fil Bo Riva actually recorded finished songs, here he allows all the experiences and influences to be dragged right off stage to the studio to be further moulded and nurtured with the band and producer. Metaphorically speaking:

“If the EP was a photograph of an idea, what we are trying to create with the album is an actual movie. I’m not trying to sound romantic but it’s like accumulating different pictures and feelings… and we all worship the album format, that’s why we want to take the time to shape it, properly.“

With this second release up his sleeve the artist proves the anticipation to his album to be correct, it is in it’s finishing touches and to be completed shortly.

Following the keenly convincing first proof-of-life “Head Sonata (Love Control)“, “Blindmaker” is dedicatedly and passionately flirting with all indie-pop hearts alike, and leaves the listener behind anxiously awaiting the album. As of April, Fil Bo Riva is back on tour and will premiere some the album’s songs.
